This form of yoga is a balance of Kapha dosha dominance which stabilizes and neutralizes Vata and Pitta doshas. Utilizing the water provides a welcoming environment that is pleasing to all the senses. Aqua Yoga is birthed from its mother form known as "Watsu" which is a water massage gifted by a trained practitioner and performed for the needs of an individual. Like Ayurveda, Watsu is curated for the specific ailment and the therapist works with the body's physiology to nurture, release, and connect with the source.
Each class offers a special experience and is unique to each participant. Classes can be facilitated as a group or individually. It is best to take time to practice a few sequences on your own as you are beginning this journey, as transitions that may have seemed challenging on land, are more fluid in the water. You will also notice different muscle groups are used to stabilize you, while others that were not as active on land, become more active in the water.
Aqua Yoga is an incredible practice for ALL bodies, ALL ages, and ALL backgrounds with ANY ability. It is an extremely welcoming practice and wonderful in small intimate groups and beautiful water environments.
As you enter into the Aqua Yoga journey, you will be embracing the Kapha dosha at its finest. Therefore, it is important to maintain your land practices and meditation practice to balance Vata and Pitta as well.
