How to Read Nādi Vigyān Ayurveda Deep Pulse

Taking the surface pulse to a deeper level. In this video, we dive into the deep pulse so we can understand the qualities of each dosha to experience the inner intelligence of our physiology.

We explore the snake-like quality of Vata, the froggy qualities of Pitta, and the swan-like qualities of Kapha. Consider doing this a few times throughout the day, specifically before and after meals or before/ after an activity.

Log...

  • Where did you feel the qualities of a Dosha?

  • Did it change throughout the day?

Vigyan is Knowledge and we utilize this practice to asses the level of imbalance and balance in human physiology reading the 3 inner intelligences, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Imbalances can transform into dis-ease and disease. Nadi Vigyan is a tool to prevent the onset of illness. The 4 levels of the Pulse are surface, sub, deep, and Dhatu levels.

How to Locate and Feel the Pulse

  • Locate the reference point- just below the palm, there is a raised bony prominence.

  • Underneath this bony prominence is the location of the pulse in the radial artery.

  • For Ladies: Place the left wrist on the palm of your right hand

  • For Men: Place the right wrist on the palm of your left hand

  • Bend the fingers so that the three fingertips rest easily on the pulse. The forefinger is placed below the reference points, followed by the middle finger.

  • Hold the 3 fingers at an angle almost perpendicular to the wrist in order to feel most clearly with the tips of the fingers.

  • The pressure of the fingers should be light, but sufficient to feel the pulse clearly. Be aware of the impulses felt by each of the three fingertips.

Applying pressure with the index, middle, and ring fingers is an important habit to maintain. Even if very little activity is felt, it is still considered reading and it is possible to get information from this.

*Note: We do not necessarily need to feel the pulsation or flow of the blood to get a full reading.
