How to Read Ojas in the Pulse and What is Ojas

The Expression of Ojas in the Pulse is discovered through the Gunas of the pulse which supports the process of Agni, Ama, and Ojas in connection with Soma.

Soma is the physical aspect of consciousness expressed as unity. Ojas is the final most refined substance of Ahar Ras (Food Nutrigen) that is a product of metabolism after all the food we ingest is processed through Agni (digestive fire). Ama is the waste product that the body no longer needs. (Sala, 2021)

"Our digestion is an indication of how we live our life." Sultan Sala (Sala, 2021)

The condition of Pitta and the body's ability to transform food into energy consists of the process known as Agni. There are 13 Agnis and 7 Srotas, that contribute to this digestive process, each one nourishing the next.

The 5 Buta Agnis are:

  • Jathar Agni - primary body

  • Akash Agni

  • Vayu Agni

  • Tejas Agni

  • Ap Agni

  • Prithivi Agni

which are the digestive agnis of the elements.

The 7 Agnis that align with the 7 Srotas are as follows:

7 Dhatu Agnis. 7 Srotas

* Ras Agni * Rasvah Srota

* Rakt Agni * Raktvash Srota

* Mamsa Agni * Mamsavah Srota

* Med Agni * Medvah Srota

* Ashti Agni * Ashtivah Srota

* Majja Agni * Majjavah Srota

* Shukra Agni * Shukravah Srota

When performing Nādi Vigyān, one may feel the qualities or Gunas of the Ojas in the pulse through the following: (Sala, 2021)

* Heavy-weight

* Cold -cool, calm

* Soft

* Smooth - even

* Viscous - thick

* Viscous - unified (Samitha)

* Stable - rhythmic activity

* Clear

* Unctuous - fully harmonious

Ojas does have its own Doshas when imbalanced, these 3 are: (Sala, 2021)

* Visrams - dislocated, dryness, pain, tenderness

* Vyapat - impure Ojas, stiffness, swelling, laziness

* Kshaya - decreased state of activity. Fainting, decreased muscle tissue, crying, and death.

This entire process takes place within our physiology after receiving the nourishment or lack thereof, by the food we take in either creating Ojas and Soma or Visrams, Vyapat, and Kshaya.

I noticed within my own pulse a variety of gunas of Ojas that came through, unctuous, soft, smooth, stable, heavy, and sweet. In understanding this, I also felt it throughout my body as I felt light, joyous, and happy. As though I was radiating a vibrant light. Which is the manifest and Soma of Ojas in physical form.
