How Doing 1% a Day Will Help You Achieve Your Goals

Doing 1 Percent a Day to Achieve Your Goals

I get it, we have all faced fear. For me, the idea of a human going underwater, reliant on some breathing apparatus to keep you alive 60+ feet beneath the surface was NOT an appealing idea to me. Not to mention submerged in cold water and the possibility of running into animals that may eat me… Yea….. that was NOT AT ALL something I NEVER thought I would enjoy, until, I did it.

We begin the journey this year by doing 1% a day to reach the goals we set forth in this new year.

Our key mantras this year:

1. Be patient

2. Be kind

3. Be strong

4. Be free

Growth happens when you allow yourself to fail, learn, and rise above.

How does one do this? By doing 1% a day.

Back to basics. At the start of every new year, the world makes resolutions, intentions, and goals that very few ever see through to the end.

The reason is that there may be a moment when there is a setback, a slip-up, or a quantum shift, that at times, makes us feel that we need to give up, that it isn’t worth the effort, or that it’s just too hard.

The words, “I can’t” make their appearance and before we know it, the year is not even in March, and whatever intention, goal, or resolution you had planned, is gone.

Keep showing up, and doing just 1% each day and you will achieve the results you seek for your mental, emotional, physical, and financial health.

It took a lot of patience. My instructor was incredibly patient with me and extremely supportive of my fears. He helped me through them and some of the most challenging techniques you need to do underwater, like fully removing your mask and then replacing it and clearing it without holding your breath. (Way harder than it sounds). There were so many times I would tell my partner, “I can’t do this,” and yet, I kept showing up and coming back. I was determined to get this scuba certification and overcome every fear.

On day one, I was learning everything we would need to do in the ocean, in the coldest pool I have ever been in. I had a lot of scary moments and mixed feelings about how I would get through day two in the open water. But I just kept repeating to myself, be patient, be kind, be strong, be free. (It was a very hard night of rest).

My partner was super encouraging and reassuring that I’m doing good and to keep breathing and staying calm. It was a challenge at first, but slowly, I started to get a little more relaxed and a little more confident. I especially felt motivated when our instructor would celebrate with a double fist bump when I overcame another fear or used another technique we learned correctly.

By the time dive, 3 and 4 came around, I was super nervous and incredibly calm. My mind was almost blank, so blank, that I low-key forgot some of the techniques for a moment. It was as though I was stunned by fear and yet this was my moment to overcome what has been holding me back all this time… going 60ft or so down beneath the surface to see a shipwreck with a supported breathing apparatus that earlier needed to be repaired numerous times.

So I geared up, stayed close to my instructor, and as soon as I hit the water, I remembered everything. At about 15ft I saw the shipwreck. I felt so happy to be able to overcome the biggest fear I ever had. I kept repeating these mantras, holding my partner’s hand (and the instructors), and feeling a sense of peace and bliss that I didn’t think I would experience this deep beneath the ocean.

After facing my fears and forming an appreciation for this unimaginable new hobby of scuba diving, I ended the three days as a certified PADI diver! It was a wonderful feeling and the smile says it all.

I DID IT!!! And you can too…

Face your fears to achieve your goals.

Now it’s your turn to make a quantum shift in your life and I want to help you achieve your goals this year by sharing how doing 1% each day will get you there.

1% begins with your Dinacharya or Your Daily Routine.

  1. What does that look like to you?

  2. Maybe, this is a good time to reflect and journal about what your ideal day or week looks like.

  3. What does self-care look like to you?

  4. When was the last time you made healthy food choices or did some yoga, maybe even went to the gym?

It all begins with making a choice. Then a commitment. Followed by being patient with yourself when you miss a day and showing up for yourself the next.

What is it, that you want to focus on right now? (Big or small)

  • Now, let’s make smaller bite-sized goals to get there together.

Here is something to make part of your daily routine:

Take 5 mins each day to jot down your accomplishments, what inspired you, and what you will work on to enrich an area that needs more growth.

Life is about the allocation of time. Discover how to value your worth and yourSelf. Valuing Your Self-worth in a way that doesn’t stress the body so you can achieve lasting results through a lifestyle you love.

JBYF focuses on integrating a yogic and ayurvedic lifestyle. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of not stopping anything quickly so the mind has an opportunity to gently transition to new rasayanas (behaviors) while releasing old habits.  It’s important to remind ourselves to ease into the activity as well.

Stressing the body in or out of activity to achieve your goal puts the body under stress and is not a state of yoga or union in the body. If you are new to yoga, your one percent a day could look like following along with one of my videos on my Jai Bhakti Yoga YouTube channel. Feel free to subscribe there for free as we share a new video daily for our online community.

Maybe you attempt 5 mins of the video, and then the next day, your one percent could look like following along for 8 minutes and one second, and so on. That one second toward your one percent on the second day is fantastic! I think you're catching my drift… on the third day, 10 minutes and two seconds is perfect.

Your one percent a day could also look like moving away from something slowly… one percent at a time.

The important thing to remember is that time accumulates, and you are worthy of the time you put into yourself.

Ayurveda utilizes the circadian rhythm as a foundation for its routine because Ayurveda is supported by the underlying foundations of nature.

There are certain times of the day, for instance, when we wake up and go to bed. In the morning, there is your morning routine, some have an afternoon ritual, and then there is an evening ritual. In Ayurveda, we call the morning routine, Dinacharya, which we covered in our Creating a Healthy Daily Routine According to the Ayurveda blog, along with its sister Blog Creating Healthy Daily Routines Dinacharya and Ritucharya. You can also listen to the podcasts Episodes 24 and 52 (which were released on Jan.10).

Being in alignment with Self and having balance can take time and effort- but you are so worth it.

What we do, when we eat, what we eat and the activities or work that busies the mind can all be tended to in a holistic pathway. This new year, let us choose to be more conscious of ourSelf throughout the day. To be more focused on refining our Dinacharya so as to automatically address or even prevent underlying illness and Vikriti (imbalances of the physiology).

There is a certain flow that will benefit everyone by following the patterns in nature. If you are uncertain of how to find balance for you or your family, this year, book an appointment with me or any Ayurvedic Consultant or Mentor and find out what you can do right now to change the way you feel about your mental, and emotional, physical, and financial health, and happiness.

1% a day is all you need to make a commitment to achieve the goals, resolutions, and intentions you have set forth this year.

Starting Jan.10, I will be sharing a 5-day challenge that will help you achieve these goals. You will get 5 emails, (one each day), that will give you 1% more to see instant results.

Be sure to join our online community mailing list at jbyfnola.org to join in on the challenge and get your free dosha quiz to discover your dominant dosha.

We will restructure the way we explore our new routines based on how we align with the circadian rhythm.
