Season 2 Ep: 2 How I Am Facing My Inner Child and Addressing My Unhealthy Patterns

The Quiet Killer: Emotional Abuse & Its Lasting Impact

Emotional abuse has quietly destroyed my sense of self—and my relationships. It's not just words. It’s a non-physical form of violence that uses control, humiliation, degradation, fear, and isolation to dominate another person.
(Engle, 2023, p.6)

This episode explores how emotional abuse leads to BPD, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Complex Trauma, and Suicidal Ideation. We unpack the hard truths, name the patterns, and begin to understand how deeply emotional abuse can shape our behaviors and beliefs.

🚩 What Emotional Abuse Looks Like:

Humiliation & degradation

Discounting & negating your feelings

Domination, control, & gaslighting

Constant judging & criticizing

Accusing, blaming, or projecting

Withholding affection, attention, or approval

Silent treatment, sulking, emotional distancing

Threats of abandonment (emotional or physical)

Subtle but cutting disapproving comments or looks

🧠 Emotional Abuse Attitudes Include:

Believing others must obey you

Ignoring or dismissing how others feel

Believing you're superior or always right (Virgos… y’all might wanna sit this one out)

Acting without empathy—often mistaken for sociopathy

⚠️ Symbolic Behavior: When Emotional Abuse Becomes Physical

Slamming doors

Throwing or breaking things

Punching walls or reckless driving

Making threatening gestures or faces

Destroying items the victim values
(Engle, 2023, pp.7)

This conversation is about awareness, accountability, and healing. If you recognize these patterns in your life—whether you're on the giving or receiving end—know this: it can change. It starts with honesty, compassion, and a willingness to do the work.
